From the creation story to the anticipation of the Messiah, through Jesus's ministry and into our present efforts, men and women have played a significant role in advancing God's redemptive plan. God invites both women and men to be part of His story. Jesus calls all His followers to fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations. We believe God is calling the believers at West Main to be part of His story and fulfill Jesus’ great commission.
Our question right now is:
How is the Lord calling the women of West Main into His story?
We desire a women’s ministry guided and shaped by God. As we reflect on this question, we feel that God is leading us into a season of pause. This pause will allow us to come to Him in prayer, surrender our will, and wait on the Lord to discern where and how He is inviting the women of our church to participate in the ministry He is calling us to serve.
On April 18th, we will be hosting a Women's Prayer Gathering. Our intention is to come together as daughters of God to worship and pray. We invite the women and girls of West Main to join us in prayer and fasting, in surrendering our hearts and will, and to wait on the Lord as we trust in His timing and direction.
Our Theme…
PRAY | SURRENDER | WAIT
Pray – We desire to draw closer to our Lord, not just pray for our plans.
Surrender – We release control and expectations. We lay everything down.
Wait – We trust God enough to wait for His timing and direction.
What to Expect
-
First and foremost, we want to come to our Lord in prayer. Prayer can take many forms, and we hope to engage in various types, including led prayer, silent prayer, group prayer, praying through Scripture, writing our prayers, and prayer walks. The key is to fully immerse ourselves in prayer, both as individuals and as the family of God.

We encourage you to join us in fasting from food for the whole day during this time of prayer. Fasting is a spiritual discipline we don’t often do in our modern Western culture. But it is a discipline we often see practiced in scripture, most often with the aim of seeking God, seeking His guidance, for our repentance, and in times of mourning. As we come together for this prayer gathering, we want to come to our Lord with a posture of surrendering whatever is on our hearts and trusting Him with all our needs. Fasting is part of that surrender; we are laying aside what sustains our physical life (food) for the true sustainer of life (God).
*This is not a requirement. We understand that everyone has different needs. However, consider how you can still participate in the discipline of fasting. Fasting for an entire day may not be feasible, but perhaps you could fast for a meal instead. Alternatively, consider fasting from something you feel is taking priority over your relationship with God, such as television, your phone, the news, negative speech, alcohol or coffee... The key point is to surrender to God whatever you may be placing above Him in your life.
Please note that we will not be providing food for this gathering; however, you are welcome to bring your own. You may also store food in the refrigerator and use the microwave in the kitchen.

Along with dedicating this day to prayer, it will also be a time to praise our Lord through song. Singing is a way of proclaiming who He is, what He has done, and what he will do. It helps our hearts align with the reality of His goodness.
